This article looks at the methods of ho'oponopono taught by Morrnah Simeona that were adopted by Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len and passed on to Dr. Joe Vitale.
During the middle of the 20th Century, Morrnah Nalamaku Simeona became one of the last Hawaiian kāhuna to be trained in the traditional way.
It was Morrnah who adapted long-standing Hawaiian concepts to modern-day applications.
In order to meet the realities of the modern day, she began to modify the traditional ho'oponopono forgiveness and reconciliation aspect of the technique, influenced by her Christian education and her philosophical studies of China, India and Edgar Cayce.
There is some controversy over which of the techniques are recognized as legitimate Hawaiian practices. However, whether they are legitimate Hawaiian practices or not, they are very powerful techniques that bring results.
The ho'oponopono mantra that Morrnah Nalamaku Simeona taught is made up of four simple, yet powerful phrases that are as follows:
- I love you
- I'm sorry
- Please forgive me
- Thank you
At the (literal or outer) level, or ho'opukakū, this practice can represent the start of reconciliation between two people, or any number of people within a group.
Since most people today are not living ALOHA as a spiritual practice, their results emanating from this level of ho'oponopono appear easier when aided by a facilitator or mediator.
At the symbolic or inner level, or kaona, a person begins to realize they are able to repeat the phrases to themselves in their mind, regardless of whether they are alone, with another person or in a group, or out in the world, to bring the energy to ground zero.
This means achieving zero without any interaction based upon memories, prejudices, or conditioned interpretations. Simultaneously, the person begins to form a relationship with ALOHA, or their own authentic nature.
The esoteric or secret level, or noahuna, brings a person into complete connection with ALOHA, which is the life force energy of the universe. It is achieved by reversing ego's proclivity to separate itself from others outside of the self.
The dismissal of ego through ho'oponopono is attained by completely replacing thinking with an unending ho'oponopono mantra.
Through this method, we return to zero with everything we perceive. This includes seeking forgiveness, thanking, apologizing and loving everything we connect with through our five senses as well as our mind.
The reason for attaining zero is to negate the collected subconscious memories of our opinions about everything and person we come across.
Such memories are regularly accessed by the left brain or analytical/conceptual mind/ego and form the basis of the way we interact with others and the external world. These subconscious opinions/prejudices are replaced with the power of the ho'oponopono affirmations, enabling us to expand the energetic value of ALOHA, which is the true nature of reality.
In this way, we start from a fresh beginning with everyone and everything.
Science has proven that all existence is pure energy, vibrating at different rates or frequencies. Everything has a quality of vibration. This includes our thoughts, our spoken words and our actions.
Into an endless ocean of motion go our thoughts, words and actions as they vibrate like waves. These waves return into our lives bringing things of similar quality to those thoughts, words and actions.
At some point, we interpret this as karma, when in fact, it is creation.
Therefore, with every thought, word and action we create the circumstances in our lives. The power of that creative ability is is not limited to one person, either. That power becomes multiplied by the number of people that are thinking, saying and doing those same things!
If ho'oponpono were to be practised with the same level of commitment that Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len demonstrated, this Hawaiian method would clear lifetimes of karma. By practising ho'oponopono before our thoughts, words and actions have the chance to manifest fully, we can negate the karma those thoughts, words or actions might create.
In the noahuna level of ho'oponopono, our ground is given up along with all we are familiar with and traded for groundlessness, or zero.
The truth of life that most people readily ignore is groundlessness, since we're caught up in the material substance of the world around us.
The ego requires solidity and confirmation in order to feel good about itself. However, the only solid, reliable or permanent thing in life is ALOHA. It is pure isness. Groundlessness becomes the ground on which we can rely.
We connect with ALOHA in all levels of the ho'oponopono technique and bring all people, circumstances and things into that connection along with us.
The way to practice this is through these simple steps:
- Make a connection with every person from your heart throughout your day
- Repeat the ho'oponopono phrases while feeling that heart connection
- Within and without you, feel ALOHA reveal itself
- Continue this throughout your day
Now is the time to use this technique in our lives to bring peace and care for all people along with the environment.
Ho'oponopono Prayer for Healing
The translated form of the full ho'oponopono prayer for healing, which embodies the "I am the I" is as follows:
"I" come forth from the void into light,
"I" am the breath that nurtures life,
"I" am that emptiness, that hollowness beyond all consciousness,
The "I", the id, the All.
"I" draw my bow of rainbows across the waters,
The continuum of minds with matters.
"I" am the incoming and outgoing of breath,
The invisible, untouchable breeze,
The undefineable atom of creation.
"I" am the "I".
For full effect, this meditative Hawaiian prayer should be and is repeated at least 108 times.
By following the teachings of Morrnah Nalamaku Simeona as covered above, powerful results can be experienced through the negation of the negative with zero as the final destination.
Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len discovered this secret when he learned from Simeona and modified the prayer to aid him in helping others in so many ways. This is including the apparent miracle whereby he "healed" an entire ward of criminally insane patients in Hawaii State Hospital.
It is that same knowledge and wisdom that Dr. Hew Len passed on to Dr. Joe Vitale to enable him to complete his highly acclaimed books, Zero Limits and At Zero, which explain much about the practice as well as how swiftly ho'oponopono can work or a person when practised correctly by a trained practitioner.
